Andres Serrano (New York, August 15, 1950) is an American photographer, known for his photographs of bodies, as well as controversial works such as Piss Christ, a photograph of a crucifix immersed in urine of the artist himself.
Andres Serrano has Afro-Cuban and Honduras origins. From 1967 to 1969 he studied art at the Brooklyn Museum and Art School. Lives and works in New York.
Works:
Many photos of Serrano using body fluids such as blood, semen or breast milk. The work “Blood and Semen III”, created from blood and seminal fluid was used as the album cover of the metal band Metallica’s Load, while “Piss and Blood” was used for the cover of ReLoad, always the same band. Also in 2002, with the collaboration of Paulo von Vacano realized the solo exhibition titled Via Crucis inside the de-consecrated Church of Santa Marta in Rome.
